The SCA's Kay Higgins will be presenting the paper "No dick makin’ me stupid" as part of the panel discussion “The Crisis of Masculinity,” on Sunday, October 20, 2024, from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM, in Room 1700 at SFU Harbour Centre (555 W. Cantus Ensemble

Turning Point Ensemble, which has the SCA's Owen Underhill as Artistic Director and conductor, is opening their 24-25 season with two "powerful and engaging" concerts by the Zagreb’s Cantus Ensemble, led by the acclaimed conductor and composer Berislav Šipuš, on Saturday, October 26 at 7:30 & Sunday, October 27, at 2:30 PM, at the Annex (823 Seymour St., Vancouver). Salish Singing and Drumming Workshop with Russell Wallace

StudioSIAT open house

Our friends and colleagues in the School of Interactive Arts + Technology are having an "open house" on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM to show off their new StudioSIAT production studio, They'll also be launching two new initiatives: the virtual ambassador program and a set of micro-credit and non-credit courses covering topics related to motion capture production and post-production. After the open house, SIAT is also presenting Motion Capture & Animation: Present & Future from 5:00 PM – 7:30 PM, featuring J. Tseng (StudioSIAT Manager), Steve DiPaola (Professor, Graduate Program Chair, and Director of iVizLab at SIAT), Derrick Carter (Founder and Managing Director of The Sawmill Motion Capture Studio), and Marina Antunes (Festival Director of SPARK ANIMATION and President of Spark CG Society & Vancouver ACM SIGGRAPH). O'Brian's Secret Ingredients

SCA alumnus Keely O'Brian's Secret Ingredients, "a theatre project that uses cake to explore the intricacies of human relationships," is accepting orders. The full realization of the project, which O'Brian is developing as part of Theatre Replacement's Acclerator Lab, will be presented at TR's HOLD ON LET GO, running February 4 – 8, 2025, at The Russian Hall (600 Campbell St., Vancouver). Kindred Tracings book launch

FLEET Mobile Artist Studios are hosting a book launch on October 17, 2024, at 5:30 PM at Edmonds Park (at the intersection 7433 Humphries and Rosewood Ave., Burnaby) for the exhibition catalogue for Kindred Tracings, featuring SCA alumni Minahil Bukhari and Michelle Sound and Dallas Hunt. The Only Animal, which has SCA alumnus Barbara Adler as Artistic Director, and Julie Andreyev are presenting Listening in Relation: Reading & Gathering, a series of events featuring "sound walks, improvisation workshops, a reading group, natural dye workshops, botanical printmaking, and more," facilitated by Rita Kompst, SCA alumnus Toni-Leah C. Yake, Anju Singh, Adrian Avendaño, Lara Felsing, and the Branching Songs Ensemble.
