The Emerging Stage
The Emerging Stage is a performance series – held on the unceded, ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations – that features emerging performance and visual artists from around the Vancouver art scene. Events are programmed with as wide of a variety as possible, providing artists a safe space for free expression and audiences an unexpected experience where anything could happen. To make this happen, The Emerging Stage is dedicated to programming Queer and BIPOC artists, as well as artists who have struggled to find a space to perform in Vancouver. An important feature of this series is that artists are provided with high quality documentation of their work (photos, video, and audio recording) which they can use in any way that benefits them. This series currently has two locations: Room 4350 at SFU's Goldcorp Centre for the Arts in Gastown (149 W. Hastings St., Vancouver) and The Chamber at Addah restaurant in Chinatown (555 Gore Ave., Vancouver).
