Maier and Lou – Live at UCSD
The SCA's Stefan Maier and Michelle Lou have a new tape, Live at UCSD, via Dinzu Artefacts, which was recorded on February 10, 2023, in the Experimental Theatre at the Conrad Prebys Music Center at the University of California, San Diego. More HERE.
Marks hosts Al-Mozian's Gaza
The SCA's Laura U. Marks introduced a free screening of Khalil Al-Mozian's experimental documentary, Gaza, and facilitated a post-screening Q&A on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at The Cinematheque (1131 Howe St., Vancouver).
Dunn talks with Kazymerchyk
SCA alumnus Janine Dunn will be in conversation with curator Amy Kazymerchyk on Saturday, June 22, 2024, from 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM at Kazymerchyk's Pale Fire Projects (866 E. Broadway, Vancouver), presented in support of Dunn's exhibition over the taken bone, which is at Pale Fire until June 22. RSVP HERE.
Jesuino's All Abilities Dance & Movement Class + Nature of Us
SCA MFA student Kevin Jesuino hosted an "All Abilities Dance & Movement Class" as part of Theatre Terrific's Open House on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at the Christine Sinclaire Community Centre (3713 Kensington Ave., Burnaby). Also, TRAction, a "dynamic collective of interdisciplinary artists" facilitated and organized by Melanie Kloetzel and Jesuino, presented Nature of Us, a "semi-improvised devised theatre and choral performance," on June 8, 2024, on St. Patrick’s Island, Calgary, presented by New Works Calgary. Company 605's lossy
With the SCA's Justine A. Chambers (Wardrobe Design) and Wladimiro A. Woyno Rodriguez (Technical Support) and SCA alumni Jack Chipman (Production Assistant) and Kevin Soo-Locsin (Associate Producer) behind the scenes, Company 605's lossy had its world premiere from June 12 – 14, 2024, in the Fei and Milton Wong Experimental Theatre here with us at 149 W. Powell Street Festival
While the full schedule isn't released yet, the Powell Street Festival have announced the date and some content for their 2024 edition on August 3 – 4, including a performance by Kokoro Dance, which has SCA alumnus Barbara Bourget as co-Artistic Director, with Jo Passed, and a screening of SCA alumnus Cindy Mochizuki’s Between Pictures: The Lens of Tamio Wakayama.

Lyd screening
We're joining with the Centre for Comparative Muslim Studies, from the river to the sea collective, SFU School of Communications, and SFU School of International Studies as cosponsors to present a free screening of Rami Younis & Sarah Ema Friedland's speculative documentary Lyd on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, from 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM in Room 1410 at SFU Harbour Centre (515 W. Hastings St., Vancouver). The event will include a discussion featuring Sarah Shamash, Dana Qaddah, and Sobhi Al-Zobaidi, moderated by Adel Iskandar. RSVP HERE.

Mercer wrapped
SCA alumnus Gloria Mercer wrapped "principal photography" on her first feature film, A Safe Distance. Described as a "feminist thriller set in the BC wilderness," A Safe Distance, which is directed by Mercer, also includes SCA alumni Aidan West (writer and co-producer) and Devan Scott (cinematographer) as part of the creative team.
