One Hundred More in Toronto

The SCA's Justine A. Chambers and Laurie Young are presenting their collaborative work, One Hundred More, an "incremental choreography of personal physical strategies the artists deploy as women of colour and mothers," as part of the Toronto Biennial of Art, which runs September 21 – December 1, 2024. Moving Matter nominated in Oslo

Moving Matter – the short film by the SCA's Rob Kitsos and SCA alumni Meagan Woods (who did the garment and wearable designs) and Beau Han Bridge (who did the cinematography, editing, and sound design), which was produced with SCA alumnus Alexandra Caprara (who did the projections and production design), and featuring SCA alumni Anna Wang Albini and Sydney Bluck as dancers – has been nominated for Best Short Film at the 2024 Oslo Short Film Festival. GoGo Musebots Go!

The SCA's Arne Eigenfeldt has posted a great collection of short video samples from the latest sessions by his Gogo Musebots and top-shelf players John Korsrud (trumpet), Jon Bentley (saxophones), and James Meger (bass), who's the focus of this particular segment. Pauly/Egoyan/Bajakian at 8East

The SCA's Mauricio Pauly (chromaharp, lapsteel, live sampling and processing), Eve Egoyan (acoustic and augmented piano), and Aram Bajakian (guitar) are playing Friday, August 30, 2024, at 7:00 PM at 8EAST (8 E. Pender St., Vancouver), along with Not for Proper (Lisa Cay Miller – piano & Kenton Loewen – drums). More HERE.

Turning Point Ensemble, which has the SCA's Owen Underhill as Artistic Director and conductor, has announced their 2024-25 Season! See what they have planned HERE.

Hill joins VAG's collection

Work by SCA alumnus Gabrielle L’Hirondelle Hill is part of the Vancouver Art Gallery's just-announced set of new acquisitions to their permanent collection. Read the VAG's press release HERE.

Touchstone's 24/25 Season

Touchstone Theatre announced their 24/25 Season, and it includes SWIM, created by Jivesh Parasram, Tom Arthur Davis, Gavan Cheema and SCA alumnus David Mesiha, which is set to run January 30 – February 3, 2025, at a TBC venue (and presented with the PuSh International Performing Arts Festival). Also, SCA alumnus Jordyn Wood, who is a playwright in residence at Touchstone Theatre, is developing their new play Vascular Necrosis. More HERE.

The Veda Hille Sisterhood's matinee

A second matinee show on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at 2:00 PM has been added for The Veda Hille Sisterhood, which includes SCA alumnus Lucien Durey on "voice and sundry noisemakers," and p:ano at The Cultch's Historic Theatre (1895 Venables St., Vancouver). More HERE.

Obuwoma and Sound's Artist's Salons

Presented in support of the exhibition It begins with knowing and not knowing, the Richmond Art Gallery shared a video on their YouTube channel of SCA alumni Ogheneofegor Obuwoma's online Artist Salon on Wednesday, July 31, 2024. Watch it HERE. SCA alumnus Michelle Sound, who's also part of the exhibition, hosted an online Artist's Salon on August 28, 2024, which we'll shared when the RAG's puts it up on YouTube, too. Ramsey talks with Lee and Lewis

Elliott Ramsey, SCA alumnus and curator at The Polygon Gallery, will be in conversation with Yaniya Lee and Artspeak’s Director Nya Lewis on September 5, 2024, at 7:00 PM at the Polygon (101 Carrie Cates Ct., North Vancouver), to celebrate the re-launch of Lee’s Selected Writing on Black Canadian Art. Durey's Neighbourly Figures

SCA alumnus Lucien Durey shared some nice installation images of Neighbourly Figures (2024), which you can see at 45 Gorge Road East in Victoria, BC, commissioned by PC Urban. See them on his Instagram HERE. Here's what Durey shared as context about the work: "Neighbourly Figures references community lore collected from the neighbourhood around the site of installation, from beloved trees and pets to memorable artistic features. The artwork’s forms are influenced in part by 1973 murals painted inside the Gorge Road Hospital by a local admirer of Picasso, Braque and Matisse. With a playful approach to shape, colour and light, “Neighbourly Figures” contemplates the stories and pastimes of Gorge Road residents, past, present and future."

Horror in Seconds' deadline

The "regular" submission for Horror in Seconds, the film festival dedicated to 60-seconds-or-less horror shorts from emerging BIPOC filmmakers, created and organized by SCA alumnus Doaa Magdy, is September 15, 2024. Find out more at the fest's FilmFreeway page.

Accelerator Lab in Europe

Theatre Replacement, which has SCA alumni Maiko Yamamoto as Artistic Director, has been sharing envy-inducing photos on their Instagram of their 2024 Accelerator Lab International Fellowship cohort, which includes SCA alumni Davey Samuel Calderon, Keely O'Brien, and Aryo Khakpour, and Kyle Loven, on a a European sojourn. Busy SCA alumnus Katayoon Yousefbigloo, who lists "fashion mogul at the helm of the P.L.U.R.O.M.A. empire" as one of her many projects, shared about the upcoming P.L.U.R.O.M.A. Resort '24 fashion show on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at 8:00 PM at the The Polygon Gallery (101 Carrie Cates Ct, North Vancouver), presented to mark the closing of the ANTI-ICON: APOKALYPSIS exhibition.
