Wei and Higgins talk Art Rock
SCA alumnus and current PhD student Casey Wei and the Libby Leshgold Gallery's Kay Higgins talk to Pancouver about Art Rock Summer, curated by Wei, which runs June 16 – August 12, 2023, at the Libby, and features a great schedule of music events, including performances by Wei's rock group Kamikaze Nurse, SCA alumnus Katayoon Yousefbigloo's "amorphous rock cosplay" project Puzzlehead, SCA alumnus Madison Mayhew's "synth-led prog rock power trio" Yep, and the SCA's Brady Cranfield (that's me!) and Higgins' Vomit Fraud. SCA alumni Wallgrin and Amanda Sum are participating in Music BC 2023 ARC program, which is an "intensive accelerator" designed to "advance the business, creative, and technical skills of recording artists" in BC. More HERE.

SCA alumnus Michelle Sound has prints for sale, each in a limited edition of 10, via Gallery 881's Flat File Project. More HERE. Also, Sound was on CBC Radio's Yukon Morning with Elyn Jones, talking about her participation in the Adäka Cultural Festival in Whitehorse, which also included SCA alumnus Krystle Silverfox. SCA alumnus and current PhD student George Rahi and Publik Secrets are participating in the 2023 edition of Current: Feminist Electronic Art Symposium, this time co-produced by Alanna Ho, which is an "intersectional, multidisciplinary, music and electronic art initiative" co-founded by Soledad Fátima Muñoz and Nancy Lee 李南屏. SCA alumnus Jessica McMann is nominated at the Western Canadian Music Awards for Classical Composer of the Year for Muskwa's Mountain Home, which was presented as part of The Bear and the Wild Rose, a "free, four-part online series" from "much-loved Canadian musician and humanitarian Tom Jackson and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra."
