To celebrate, to resist, and to fundraise.

In August 2022 a US Congresswoman, in opposing President Biden's student loan forgiveness plan, said that she did not want her tax dollars funding “Karen's daughter’s degree in lesbian dance theory.” In October of the same year, at the Dance Studies Association’s (DSA) annual conference in Vancouver (which was hosted by the SCA), the first Lesbian Dance Theory Party was organized as a spontaneous act of resistance to attacks on academic freedom and as a celebration of LGBTQIA2S+ rights.

A year later, the SCA is excited to host another such event, part of a planned series being organized by postsecondary arts programs across North America in conjunction with their fall exhibitions and performance programming. Come out to celebrate the amazing work in Autofictional, our MFA Graduating Exhibition and Festival and, in the process, to help raise funds for our friends at DSA and Vancouver’s very own Queer Arts Festival.
