Soji-George and Chadha talk Black Arts Centre's Club PuSh

Also marking Black History Month, Stir Vancouver interviews SCA alumnus Olumoroti Soji-George and Arshi Chadha about The Black Arts Centre's Club PuSh event tonight – February 3 – from 9:00 PM – 1:00 AM, featuring a three-hour DJ set from Mada Phiri, at Performance Works (1218 Cartwright Street, Granville Island, Vancouver), presented as part of the 2023 PuSh International Performing Arts Festival. The SCA's Wladimiro A. Woyno Rodriguez has been in Calgary working as the Video/Projection Designer and Technologist on Ghost River Theatre's STRUCK, which is having its World Premiere tonight at Calgary's West Village Theatre running to February 11, 2023. More HERE.

Shihab in Revolt Against the Sun & A New Wave Theory

The SCA's Nadia Shihab's Echolocation is screening as part of Revolt Against the Sun on Shasha, an "independent streaming service for South-West Asian and North African cinema." More HERE. Boisjoly and Hill in We Are Story

The SCA's Raymond Boisjoly and SCA alumnus Gabrielle L’Hirondelle Hill have works in We Are Story: The Canada Now Photography Acquisition, which runs until May, 2023, at the Art Gallery of Ontario. More HERE.

Marks talks Soul-Assemblage Media

The SCA's Laura U. Marks presented the talk "Soul-Assemblage Media" online as part of Chaosmotechnics? Art, Media, Techniques, after Deleuze and Guattari on Friday, February 3, 2023, at the Trinity Long Room Hub Arts and Humanities Research Institute at Trinity College Dublin, organized by former SCA postdoctoral fellow Radek Przedpełski who's also Marks' colleague in both the Small File Film Festival and the Substantial Motion Research Network. Vancouver Art Blog shares some Slade

Vancouver Art Blog has shared some great installation shots of the SCA's Kathy Slade's exhibition As the sun disappears and the shadows descend from the mountaintop, which is running to May 7, 2023, at the Contemporary Art Gallery (555 Nelson St., Vancouver). Check them out HERE. Also, Slade had a free public conversation with poet and writer Lisa Robertson Tuesday, January 31. Upcoming, SCA alumnus Lorna Brown will be hosting a Saturday Session about the exhibition on February 11 at 12:00 PM (more HERE), and SCA alumnus (and Communications person!) Brady Cranfield will be hosting a Saturday Session on March 18 at 12:00 PM, too (more HERE).  

Rogalsky and Patenaude play Always, Always

Accompanied by The East Van Country Band, the SCA's Ben Rogalsky and Marin Patenaude performed Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner’s duet album Always, Always Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at The Heatley. Also, Rogalsky has booked evenings by the fortnight at The Heatley for other, similar gigs for the year, so make sure to check The Heatley's website.

Monteiro in To fold; To fault

SCA alumnus Vitória Monteiro is part of the exhibition To fold; To fault, which runs February 17 – March 25, 2023, at North Vancouver's Cityscape Community ArtSpace (335 Lonsdale Avenue). More HERE.

Basanta's Targeted

SCA alumnus Adam Basanta's video work, Targeted: Perceived Similarity at 40fps, produced out of "Nearly 3000 targeted ads were collected, studied, and analyzed using Machine learning and statistical processing techniques," is part of the exhibition À travers les secrets : l'art de créer des espaces entre les lignes, curated by Erandy Vergara, which runs until March 5, 2023, at Montreal's Maison de Culture Cote-de-Neige (5290, chemin de la Côte-des-Neiges). There's a petition to move SCA alumnus Ken Lum's now-iconic East Van Cross work from its current location, which is about to be partially blocked by a new, nearby development, to the Hastings-Sunrise neighbourhood. More HERE.

SFU Galleries x Collage Collage = Family Day

Yousefbigloo runs up to the Lind

Congratulations to Simranpreet Anand for winning the 2023 Philip B. Lind Emerging Artist Prize, which was awarded on Thursday, January 26 at the Polygon Gallery. But also, congratulations to Aaron Leon and SCA alumnus Katayoon Yousefbigloo, who were "runners-up," winning $4,000 each.  

Iguana up for a Juno

Hard Rubber Orchestra's Iguana, which includes a recording of SCA alumnus James O'Callaghan's A bilateral, a symmetry, was nominated for a Juno Award for Instrumental album of the year. Listen to the album HERE.

SCA alumnus and current sessional instructor Brendan Prost was one of the Video Pitch Jurors for Crazy8s Film Society's latest round of submissions. Find out who was chosen HERE.

The Tidal Exchange podcast

SCA alumnus Ian McFarlane is the Director of Production for The Tidal Exchange, a new podcast from The River Clyde Pageant, which was founded by SCA alumnus Megan Stewart and dearly departed SCA faulty member Ker Wells in 2015. Listen HERE.
