Djavad Mowafaghian Cinema | Room 3200

A 350-seat theatre featuring state-of-the-art projection and sound systems. The Djavad Mowafaghian Cinema showcases student film projects, along with festival and community film screenings. It is also an ideal space for lectures and presentations. With room at the front of the hall for a small stage, the Djavad Mowafaghian Cinema can double as a concert hall for small ensemble performances. More HERE.

First-Year Film Editing Lab | Room 3420

Computer and teaching lab with 13 Macs running Adobe Premiere, ProTools, and DaVinci, a multi-channel audio system, and a large teaching monitor.. Prioritized for 1st year film students.

Music & Sound Studio | Room 4350

A large, multipurpose teaching space with a variety of electronic and acoustic instruments, sound system, and a large teaching monitor, that's also used as a rehearsal and performance space.

Soundstage | Room 4365

A multi-use space that includes a slidable black curtain, light grid with movable lights, lighting board, equipment closet, large monitor on wheels, and a rolling step-ladder. Large double exterior doors create a sound-proof environment.

Courtyard Studio | Room 4525

The largest dance studio at the SCA, equipped with a piano, drums, sound system, monitor, a sprung floor, and black curtains to cover the mirrors.

Blonde Studio | Room 4650

A dance studio with a sound system, lighting board for basic LED lighting, a projector, a sprung floor, and black curtains to cover its mirrors, which can also function as a dance performance space.

Electronic music studio | Room 4660

A faculty and graduate research space that contains a multi-channel sound system and several analog synthesisers (including a late 1970s Serge Modular synth and a 1970s Putney), a Yamaha Disklavier, and faculty-designed robotic instruments: an 18-armed mechanical percussion instrument (the Notomoton) and a 33-armed mallet instrument.

Hastings Studio | Room 4750

A dance studio with natural light from the windows overlooking Hastings Street, equipped with a video projector, sound system, a sprung floor, and black curtains to cover its mirrors.

Small Screening Room | Room 4955

A 35-seat cinema and seminar space with 4k projection, 5.1 surround sound, and black-out curtain.

Costume & Prop Shop | Room B2150

A space with a large and varied inventory of items accesible for students to sign out, including costumes, props, and miscellaneous items for theatre or film productions.

Darkroom | Room B2185

A light tight environment to process 16mm or Super 8 motion picture film, which includes a sink, developing coils, B&W chemical recycling containers, a drying rack, and a chemical cupboard for storing chemistry. Access granted by faculty permission only.

Wood Shop | Room B2210

A large workspace used for a variety of woodwork and construction jobs to support various productions and art projects. The space contains a table saw, a chop saw, and a band saw, and a full compliment of hand tools, such as screwguns, jig saws, staplers, painting materials, and more.

Fei and Milton Wong Experimental Theatre & Assembly Area | Room B2260 / B2290

One of Vancouver’s largest black box spaces, the Fei and Milton Wong Experimental Theatre is a site for contemporary dance, theatre, concerts and other performances, as well as talks and panel discussions. With full lighting and audio and projector systems, the venue features a balcony on three sides with flexible seating below that can be arranged in-the-round, in a more conventional setup, or even with no floor seating at all. The Assembly Area is connected to the theatre by a retractable guillotine door that can also serve as a stage with a proscenium arch. More HERE.

Audain Gallery

Hosting exhibitions for the SCA's Audain Visual Artists in Residence Program and the SCA's BFA and MFA student exhibitions, the Audain Gallery advances the aesthetic and discursive production and presentation of contemporary art through a responsive program of exhibitions that support engaged pedagogy at the SCA. Events such as artist’s talks, public discussions, and screenings are organized parallel to the gallery’s exhibitions, cultivating the cultural context and conversation around visual art.

The lobby of the SCA has a versatile dual projector setup and audio system, used primarily to showcase faculty and student work.  

611 Alexander

Since 1993, the SCA Visual Art program's facilities have included a large open-plan studio at the Alexander building in downtown Vancouver. The space provides classrooms, a workshop, a presentation space, and second to forth-year undergraduate and graduate student studios. It is also the venue for the 611 Talks series of talks and presentations by visiting artists.
