Lam shows
Current SCA MFA student Tung Pang Lam's work The Great Escape is part of the exhibition Beyond the Mountain: Contemporary Chinese Artists on the Classical Forms, which is ongoing now at the Seattle Asian Art Museum (1400 East Prospect Street). Lam is also having a solo exhibition, Past Continuous Tense, at the Asian Art Museum (Chong-Moon Lee Center for Asian Art and Culture, 200 Larkin St., San Francisco), Opening December 16, 2022.
Pavsek roundup
The SCA's Christopher Pavsek has been busy: he completed an artist residency at the Taft-Nicholson Center for Environmental Humanities Education in Montana from June – August, 2022, working on his experimental documentary, The Evening News, featuring the SCA's Erika Latta doing the voice-over for the film. His other experimental documentary, Scenes from Desert, which screened on the lobby screen array here at SFU Goldcorp Centre for the Arts from March 10 – 25, 2022, is having its festival premiere at the 2023 Ann Arbor Film Festival, which runs March 21 – 26, supported by a Small SSHRC Explore Research Grant. Finally, he's having a two-month artist residency in Skagaströnd, Iceland, also in March 2023, where he'll be working on a new film about the landscape of northern Iceland.
Pauly's HOMICONMADOABLO
Vertixe Sonora are performing the SCA's Mauricio Pauly's HOMICONMADOABLO on Sunday, December 4, 2022, at 6:00 PM at the Teatro Cine Colón in Bonares, Spain, as part of the NueBo Festival, along with works by Panayiotis Kokoras, Inés Badalo, Nuno Pinto, and Esaias Järnegard. More HERE.
Marks' Seeing in the Dark
The SCA's Laura U. Marks has contributed the essay "Seeing in the Dark: A Talismanic Hack into the Carbon Footprint of ICT" to the anthology Dark Eden: Transdisciplinary Imaging, which grew out of the The Sixth International Conference on Transdisciplinary Imaging at the Intersections between Art, Science and Culture, running in Sydney and online from November 6 – 8, 2020. On Yun and Angel’s Bone

Turning Point Ensemble, which has the SCA's Owen Underhill as its conductor and Artistic Director, joins Arraymusic, Re:Naissance Opera, Sound the Alarm: Music/Theatre, and Loose TEA Music & Theatre to present the Canadian premiere of Du Yun's 2017 Pulitzer Prize-winning opera Angel’s Bone on November 25 & 26, 2022, at 7:30 PM, and November 27 at 2:00 PM at the Annex Theatre (823 Seymour St., Vancouver). The SCA's Stefan Smulovitz did the score for Greg I. Hamilton's POWER of the RIVER: Expedition to the Heart of Water in Bhutan, which has its "World Broadcast Premiere" on January 8, 2023. More HERE.

Of the many good, viable reasons to follow the good folks at Playwrights Theatre Centre (PTC) on Instagram, a new one is the daily series of "PTC Platforms" posts from The Public Swoon's (the SCA's Barbara Adler and Kyla Gardiner) UNSCRIPTED Mermaid Springs project until December 2, 2022. PuSh announced
PuSh International Performing Arts Festival announced their 2023 programming, which includes Electric Company Theatre's An Undeveloped Sound, featuring SCA alumni Scott Morgan (Loscil) as the composer and Sophie Tang as the lighting designer, and Lisa Cooke Ravensbergen's The Seventh Fire, "an immersive audio performance inspired by ceremony." Robinson wins a Wallace Berry Award
Congratulations to SCA alumnus Dylan Robinson, who won a 2022 Wallace Berry Award for the excellent Hungry Listening: Resonant Theory for Indigenous Sound Studies, published by the University of Minnesota Press in 2020, which also won 2021 Best First Book from the Native American and Indigenous Studies Association, the 2020 Labriola Center American Indian National Book Award, and the 2021 Ann Saddlemyer Award from the Canadian Association for Theatre Research. Hello, my name is Goran and I am in my first year of Art Performance and Cinema Studies. I enjoy music and being on the road. I love dogs and my favourite color is red. I moved to Canada from Mexico at the age of 10 and speak Spanish fluently. My goal as ambassador is to make entertaining content for SCA students.
