Gruben's Heart of Gold

The SCA's Patricia Gruben's new film, Heart of Gold, which reflects on "the late 60s when so many Americans sought refuge from the Vietnam war by coming north of the border," is screening at the Vancouver International Film Festival's VIFF Centre (1181 Seymour St., Vancouver) from March 29 – April 1 & April 3, 2025. TPE plays Notes on Light

Turning Point Ensemble, which has the SCA's Owen Underhill as Artistic Director and conductor, are presenting Kaija Saariaho's Notes on Light (and other works) on Saturday, May 24 at 7:30 PM and Sunday, May 25 at 2:30 PM at The Annex (823 Seymour St., Vancouver). More HERE.

Daniel stays busy

The SCA's Henry Daniel, while retired from teaching, is always busy. For example, he'll be "in conversation" about his book, Re-Choreographing Cortical & Cartographic Maps: Going West to Find East Going East to Find West (Intellect, 2022), on Saturday, March 22, 2025, as part of the Feria Internacional de la Lectura Yucatán (FILEY), running March 22 to 30, 2025, at the Centro de Convenciones y Exposiciones Yucatán Siglo XXI in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico. The Small File Media Society and VIVO Media Arts are excited to be collaborating on Sovereign Small Files, a FREE hybrid workshop on making small-file movies. This FREE workshop at VIVO Media Arts (2625 Kaslo St., Vancouver) runs every Thursday from April 10 – May 08, 2025.

Open to all, but with priority given to Indigenous makers and artists from across Turtle Island, and with spots held for those belonging to our host nations, the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations People.

To participate, please send a 100-200-word statement of interest saying why small files are right for you to info@smallfile.ca by March 27.

Purpose of the YAC

The Youth Advisory Committee will provide a meaningful and constructive voice for the 2SLGBTQ+ youth from coast-to-coast- to-coast, while advising IGBC on important social, recreational, and lifestyle issues concerning the 2SLGBTQ+ youth community.

The Committee will also assist the IGBC Board in developing, implementing, measuring, and reporting on sustainable programs, events and initiatives, with a long-term focus that supports IGBC’s values, mission and goals.

STIPEND

Members will receive an annual stipend of $1,500, paid in quarterly instalments of $375, upon satisfactory achievement of responsibilities listed in our Terms of Reference.
