SIFF program announced
This term's Skoden Indigenous Film Festival team have released the program for the 2023 edition of the Festival, which takes place Friday, March 31 & Saturday, April 1, 2023, in the Djavad Mowafaghian Cinema here at SFU Goldcorp Centre for the Arts (149 W. Hastings St., Vancouver). Split into five programs – Activating the Landscape; It’s a Long Story, with feature Ever Deadly; The Deepest Part of my Heart; Who I Am, Who We Are; and Our Connections – check out the amazing lineup of films HERE.
Daniel, Sembatya, and Brown Mapping Black Creativity

SCA alumni Caroline MacCaull and Sammy Chien and the Chimerik 似不像 crew shared some behind-the-scenes images of their projection design collaboration on Chimerik 似不像's Instagram for the Arts Club Theatre Company's presentation of Teenage Dick, which is running to March 5, 2023, at the Newmont Stage at the BMO Theatre Centre (#203 – 162 W 1st Ave., Vancouver), presented in collaboration with Bard on the Beach and Realwheels Theatre. Fierro in Block D
SCA alumnus Jesse Del Fierro is part of Playwrights Theatre Centre's Block D 2023 cohort, and will be "working with [PTC's] Dramaturg, Creative Engagement Joanna Garfinkel over the next 10 weeks in a small and supportive cohort to expand their dramaturgical tool kits and breadth of experience." TSU's EGG
The SCA Theatre Student Union has launched EGG: Emerging Growth Grant, which is a $625 "project assistance grant" open to all current SFU students, alumni, and collectives (with at least one member that is an SFU student or alumnus). They're "looking for works from any artistic discipline, whether they be presented live, digital, as a work in progress, as a workshop, interactive works," but with a "preference for works that are interdisciplinary and/or promote collaborative practice." La Libélula Cooperative's Perceptions of Dual Identity
The folks from La Libélula Cooperative, which includes SCA alumnus Adriana Contreras, former SFU's Vancity Office of Community Engagement staffer Fiorella Pinillos, and Settlement & Employment Specialist Giuliana Lira, shared a video about their recent Perceptions of Dual Identity workshop for "newcomer Latin American teens," led by art educator Carolina Aguirre. Gamelan Bike Bike's 10th anniversary
Founded by musician Robyn Jacob and SCA alumnus and PhD student George Rahi, Gamelan Bike Bike are holding a concert to celebrate their 10th anniversary on Friday, March 24, 2023, at 7:30 PM – 10:00 PM at the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre (181 Roundhouse Mews, Vancouver). The evening features new works by the ensemble under the direction of I Putu Swaryandana Ichi Oka, plus an opening set of gendér wayang, traditional music from the Balinese art of shadow puppetry wayang kulit.
