with Barbara Adler

Room 2205 – SFU Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, 149 W Hastings St., Vancouver
Thursday, March 16 | 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM | ZOOM Link
These sessions are the same. Please pick 1 to attend only.
In this mini-workshop, you’ll learn about finding, proposing and confirming a self-directed contemporary arts practicum. Unpaid practicums may be completed for academic credit and a grade as part of Contemporary Arts Practicum I (CA 306) and Contemporary Arts Practicum II (CA 406).
Note: All students who are interested in enrolling in a contemporary arts practicum or internship for summer 2023 must attend a general info session.* “How to Pitch a Self-Directed Contemporary Arts Practicum” is an optional, additional workshop.
Should I Attend?
If the thought of e-mailing a stranger with an idea makes you nervous – this workshop is for you.
Interested in enrolling in a practicum or an internship? This workshop will be helpful if:
- you know someone at a local arts organization or company, but don’t know how to propose a practicum;
- you have an idea of what you want to learn through a practicum, but don’t know which organizations you should reach out to
- you have a dream arts organization, artist or company and you’d love to propose a practicum ––but they have no idea you exist;
Thr truth is that writing ‘pitch’ and proposal e-mails is something you’ll do a lot in arts work, and it’s a great transferable skill that applies to many careers.
Please bring
Something to write with and something to write on. A laptop or internet connected device will be helpful but is not required.
RSVP to scapdev@sfu.ca with your name, student number, and the date you’d like to attend.
*If you attended a general info session in fall 2022, you do not have to attend an info session. Contact Barbara Adler, the SCA Professional Development Coordinator to be released to search.
