Rodriguez and Caprara talk Technologies in Prague
The SCA's Wladimiro A. Woyno Rodriguez and SCA alumnus Alexandra Caprara presented at the Prague Quadrennial’s symposium on Technologies in theatre, performance, and exhibition design, which ran October 16–18, 2024, at the Vzlet Cultural Centre. More HERE.
TPE opens with Cantus Ensemble
Turning Point Ensemble, which has the SCA's Owen Underhill as Artistic Director and conductor, is opening their 24-25 season with two "powerful and engaging" concerts by the Zagreb’s Cantus Ensemble, led by the acclaimed conductor and composer Berislav Šipuš, on Saturday, October 26 at 7:30 & Sunday, October 27, at 2:30 PM, at the Annex (823 Seymour St., Vancouver). The SCA's Kay Higgins presented the paper "No dick makin’ me stupid" as part of the panel discussion “The Crisis of Masculinity,” which was part of Institute for the Humanities at Simon Fraser University's Fascist Neo-liberalism and the Fate of Radical Democracy Conference, running October 17 – 20, 2024, and now Higgins has generously shared the paper HERE.
LUCENT Festival
The SCA's Mauricio Pauly (autoharp, lap steel guitar, electronics) is playing with Nikko Whitworth (bass) tonight – Friday, October 25, 2024 – at 8:00 PM at 8EAST (8 E. Pender St., Vancouver) as part of the 1st Annual LUCENT Festival Indigenous and improvising artists, presented by the NOW Society. Also part of the festival, SCA PhD student Simon Lysander Overstall (tree-a-kin instrument, software programming) is playing as part of the Branching Songs Ensemble on Saturday, October 26, at 8:00 PM. Low’s What Are Our Supports? at the Vancouver Writers’ Festival
What Are Our Supports?, co-edited by curator, writer and SCA PhD student Joni Low and art historian Jeff O’Brien, is 1 of 5 books shortlisted for the City of Vancouver’s 2024 Book Awards, which ran on Friday, October 25, 2024, at 1:00 PM, at the Vancouver Writers’ Festival award ceremony at the Revue Stage on Granville Island (1601 Johnston St., Vancouver). Our colleagues from another institution at the Libby Leshgold Gallery are hosting Autumn Knight as their Audain Distinguished Artist in Residence from October 1 – December 7, 2024. As part of Knight's residency, she'll be giving an Artist Talk on October 30 at 6:00 PM in the Reliance Theatre at Emily Carr University of Art + Design and a Performance on November 22 at 6:00 PM in the Libby (520 E 1st Ave., Vancouver). We're also fortunate to have Knight as one of the choreographers for The Middle of Everywhere, the upcoming SCA Repertory Dancers performance, running November 21 – 23, 2024, in the Fei & Milton Wong Experimental Theatre here at 149 W.
