African Cinema Now!: Dreaming of Elsewhere

Akojo Film Collective, which is Kika Memeh and SCA alumnus Ogheneofegor Obuwoma, have curated a new African Cinema Now! series of films, titled Dreaming of Elsewhere, at the VIFF Centre (1181 Seymour St., Vancouver), presented in recognition of Black History Month. More HERE.

Priest's Dead-Wall Reveries

Along with new works and arrangements of works by Maria-Eduarda Mendez Martins, Pouya Hamidi, and Morgan-Paige Melbourne, The Array Ensemble is presenting the world premiere of Dead-Wall Reveries by the SCA's Eldritch Priest, as part of New Encounters on ​​February 15, 2025, from 8:00 PM – 11:00 PM, at Arrayspace (155 Walnut Ave., Toronto). Chong in Welcome Back, Yokohama

The SCA's Chris Chong Chan Fui is participating in Welcome Back, Yokohama, the inaugural exhibition at the reopened Yokohama Museum of Art, which runs February 8 – June 2, 2025. More HERE.

Transness and Arts Institutions

The SCA's Kay Higgins is participating on the roundtable, "Transness and Arts Institutions," with Whess Harman and Maliv Khondaker, moderated by Vanessa Kwan, which is being presented as part of Trans Opacity Classroom, "a day-long discursive event dedicated to trans gathering and intra-community discourses," on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at the Libby Leshgold Gallery. Underhill’s the force that through the green fuse drives the flower

TPE Miniature, the upcoming concert on February 22 (7:30 PM) & February 23 (2:30 PM), 2025, at the Annex Theatre (23 Seymour St, Vancouver) by Turning Point Ensemble (which has the SCA's Owen Underhill as Artistic Director and conductor), includes the world premiere of Underhill’s the force that through the green fuse drives the flower, as well as the world premiere of Trikala Jati for JB by Curtis Andrews, performed by Jonathan Bernard and Sudnya Mulye, and a performance of Undine Smith Moore’s Afro-American Suite and Before I’d Be a Slave. The Capilano Review, which has SCA alumnus Jacquelyn Zong-Li Ross as Art Editor, is seeking a new Literary Editor, to begin March 15, 2025. More HERE. An Ocean to Livity

SCA PhD student Jordan Strom was on-hand for the opening of Charles Campbell: An Ocean to Livity at York University's Goldfarb Gallery (i83A York Blvd., Toronto) on Friday, January 31, 2025. While this version was curated by Felicia Mings, the exhibition was first presented at the Surrey Art Gallery in the spring of 2023, where Strom is the Curator of Exhibitions and Collections.
