I’ll Meet You in the Space Between presents the work of visual art students graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School for the Contemporary Arts at Simon Fraser University.

The artists in the exhibition engage with the notion of space across multiple registers, exploring its depth, fluidity, rhythm, and relational possibilities. Space is considered via surface, material, or body; as dreamscape, landscape, environment, and outer space; and as the place of connection, interconnection, and difference as can be seen by way of cultural identity and popular culture. This notion of space also embodies memory – memory that has life in the present and that is not relegated to a past that is over and done with but that is recontextualized in a lived present.

Like memory, this space is ephemeral and shifting, and it can include notions of the emotional, mental, and spiritual. It is an energy that exists outside and in-between the parameters of artwork and acts as an interval for collaboration, conversation and connection. Though the artworks in the exhibition take various forms including painting, sculpture, photography, textile, and video to present a wide range of subjects, there are rich spaces of relation and correlation of ideas, histories, and identities.

The artists in I’ll Meet You in the Space Between respectfully acknowledge the unceded traditional territories including, the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations, on which SFU Vancouver is located.
