Tolmie at Griffin Art Projects
SCA alumnus Cody Tolmie is the recipient of Griffin Art Projects' 2024 Emerging Indigenous Studio Art Award and will have a residency with Griffin Art Projects from February 1 – March 31, 2024, and will hold an Open Studio at 1180 Welch St., North Vancouver, on Sunday, March 24, from 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM. Black History Month at SFU
Here's a list of events shared by SFU's Equity Office in honour of Black History Month with the theme of "Building Connections for Black Flourishing." See the list HERE. SFU Library shared a great selection of books and films in honour of Black History Month. Check it out HERE. Black History Month is also an opportunity to share the ongoing call from the SFU Black Caucus, which has the SCA's Henry Daniel as Academics, Research and Mentorship Officer and SCA alumnus Olumoroti (Moroti) Soji-George as Secretary, for their Black History Project, which seeks to collect the "many stories left untold, questions unanswered and gaps in the history of Black faculty, staff and students at SFU." Social Studios
The Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology's Stuart Popp reviews the recipients of FCAT's Community Engagement Initiative grants, including the SCA's James Long and Ryan Tacata, whose "Social Studios" focus within our Theatre & Performance area, developed in partnership with 312 Main, seeks "to promote lifelong learning and engagement on the part of Theater & Performance students with respect to social issues and to introduce modes of public engagement via performance practice.” More HERE.
