Slip Slap Trip Wack
Here's Stir Vancouver on the world premiere of Slip Slap Trip Wack, a "family-friendly work" that "brings to life the imaginative worlds of 8–12-year-olds" by Leaky Heaven Performance (the SCA's Steven Hill, Josh Hite, SCA alumnus Nancy Tam, SCA PhD student Dave Biddle, Lois Anderson, SCA alumnus Paula Viitanen, Marion Jacobs, Juan Aldazosa, Avery Chapman, Val Christianson, SCA alumnus Marita Michaelis, the SCA's Justine A. Chambers, SCA alumnus Katayoon Yousefbigloo, and Vanessa Mercedes Figueroa), which runs July 26 – 28, 2024, at the Russian Hall (600 Campbell Ave., Vancouver). Read it HERE.
Long in Norway
SCA Theatre & Performance faculty member James Long is in Norway working on a new work of performance, based on the Jorge Luis Borges text Ragnarok, called And They Cheerfully put the Gods to Death. While there he will be working at Carte Blache’s Studio Bergen space with a team of Bergen based collaborators including co-creator Andrea Spreafico and performer Helen Guren. The premiere for the work in Bergen and Stavanger Norway is September 2024.
Saugstad and Chambers in the season
The Dance Centre's 2024-2025 season includes the premiere of Iris Garland Emerging Choreographer Award recipient and SCA alumnus Anya Saugstad's Paper Mountains on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 8:00 PM at the Dance Centre (featuring SCA alumni Eowynn Enquist and Shion Skye Carter and Daria Mikhaylyuk, Nasiv Sall, and Oksana Maslechko as dancers, music by SCA alumnus Stefan Nazarevich, and lighting design by Andie Lloyd), and the appointment of the SCA's Justine A. Chambers as an Associate Artist (along with Ralph Escamillan) for a three-year term. More HERE.
Powell Street Festival
The Powell Street Festival, running August 3 & 4, 2024, in and around Vancouver's Oppenheimer Park, includes a screening of SCA alumnus Cindy Mochizuki’s Between Pictures: The Lens of Tamio Wakayama, screening August 3 – 5 at the Firehall Arts Centre (280 E. Cordova St., Vancouver), and a presentation of Anju Singh, Valerie Turner, and SCA alumnus Derek Chan's A Hydra Journal of the Plague Year - 疫病流行記, which opens August 2 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM and runs to August 17 at Centre A (205 – 268 Keefer St, Vancouver).
Kong's Archives of No Place
SCA alumnus Yani Kong contributed the essay "Archives of No Place: The Frivolous Line in Mounira Al Solh’s Portraiture" to the book Refugees and the Media: Local and Global Perspectives, edited by Nasir Uddin and Delaware Arif, which is out now from Palgrave Macmillan. More HERE.

Vancouver Art Book Fair
Publication Studio Vancouver (the SCA's Kay Higgins and Kathy Slade), The Capilano Review (which has SCA alumni Jacquelyn Zong-Li Ross as Art Editor), Gallery Gachet (which has SCA alumnus Olumoroti Soji-George as Artistic Director), ReIssue (which is edited by SCA PhD student Casey Wei), and our friends SFU Galleries are all vendors at the Vancouver Art Book Fair, which runs July 26 & 27, 2024, at the Roundhouse Art & Recreation Centre (181 Roundhouse Mews, Vancouver). Taylor leaving PTC
Big changes at Playwrights Theatre Centre: SCA alumnus Heidi Taylor, who's been the Artistic and Executive Director of PTC for 12 years and with PTC for 19 years in total, is leaving her role at the end of the year. Congratulations, Heidi! More HERE.
