Hide + See
SCA Public Art Project
March 31 – April 4, 2023 | Free
Academic Quadrangle
SFU Burnaby Campus, 8888 University Dr. W., Burnaby
Hide + See is a multi-day public art intervention at SFU’s Burnaby Campus from March 31 – April 4th.
As a class assignment in the School for the Contemporary Arts’ course 1st year students will work with instructors Sabine Bitter, Alex Stursberg and TA Taryn Walker to realize “anamorphic” public artworks at various locations around the Academic Quadrangle. Anamorphics are “drawings in space” – shapes that you can only see from one specific point of view. This exercise intervenes into the everyday routines of how students and SFU’s community experience the architectural and social environment of the campus and invites passersby to playfully interact with their surroundings and “seek” out the hidden artworks. Hide + See offers unexpected perspectives of the campus and engages in the university as a space for communication, interaction, as well as a site of knowledge production.
With works by Hannah Baxter, Alex Chan, James Dovolis, Theo Ewanchook, Flora Jiang, Zoe Larson, Sanodya Adikari Mudiyanselage, Claire O’Neil, Naomi Oko, Annie Zhang, Elliana Zheng, Coco Zhou, Yeganeh Bakhtiary, Charlotte Bauslaugh, Marissa Chan, Nicole Chen, Lex Grochowich, Becky Jack, Alexis Jackson, Daria Kalinina, Misaki Kubo, Victoria Lo, Hugo Lu, Luxie Nie, Natasha Sran, Ella Tani, Emma Tweedie, Emma Wilkinson, Jenny Yu, and Katherine Zhou.
