Tallbear talks Beyond Diversity and Inclusion in the Academy
The Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology, our home at SFU, is presenting Dr. Kim Tallbear: Beyond Diversity and Inclusion in the Academy on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at 10:00 AM (PST) in the ICBC Concourse room at SFU's Morris J. HOLD ON LET GO
Running in two parts (PART I from January 23 – 27 and PART II from January 30 – February 2, 2024) at The Russian Hall (600 Campbell St., Vancouver), the programming for Theatre Replacement and Company 605's HOLD ON LET GO, formerly known as PushOFF, includes great SCA representation: Amy Amantea and the SCA's James Long's Through My Lens, has alumni Sophie Tang on Lighting and Set Design and Daniel O’Shea on Technical Direction; Hong Kong Exile’s HEAVEN FM was created by alumni Natalie Tin Yin Gan, Alex Mah, and Kaylee Louie; Mardon + Mitsuhashi's whereverever has alumnus Erika Mitsuhashi as a co-creater and perfomer, with alumni Jaewoo Kang on Costume Design and Jack Chipman as Technical Manager; SpiderWebShow Performance's SmartSmart is directed and performed by alumni Adrienne Wong; alumni Keely O'Brien is giving an In-Development Presentation of Secret Ingredients; Theatre Replacement's Best Life was conceived, directed, and performed by alumnus Maiko Yamamoto, and co-created by Yamamoto and alumni O’Brien and Arthi Chandra, plus with alumnus O’Shea as Technical Consultant; and Company 605's lossy (excerpts) has the SCA's Justine A. Chambers on Wardrobe Design and alumnus Antonio Somera Jr. as a performer. Dust Breeding at Cafe Oto
Apartment House will be premiering the SCA's Eldritch Priest's new string quartet Dust Breeding, on January 7, 2024, at Cafe Oto (18 – 22 Ashwin St., Dalston, London).
Eigenfeldt in Rome
The SCA's Arne Eigenfeldt is presenting the paper, "Perfectly Mediocre: A Speculative Performance for Artificial Intelligence and Human Performer," at the 2023 Generative Art Conference, which runs December 11 – 13 in Rome, Italy. More HERE.
Trapp pop-up
Including work by the SCA's Kathy Slade and SCA alumni Alex Tedlie Stursberg and Steve Hubert, Patrik Andersson's Trapp Projects (alley entrance at 274 E. 1st Ave., Vancouver) is holding its Annual Pop Up Fundraiser from December 8 – 10, 2023, with 25% of sales donated to the Vancouver Food Bank. SCA alumnus David Mesiha and Gavan Cheema, who are co-artistic directors of Theatre Conspiracy, are guests on the latest episode of the PuSh International Performing Arts Festival's podcast, PuSh Play, talking about their show Same Difference, running in the 2024 edition of the Festival, which also has SCA alumni Milton Lim on Projection Co-Design and SCA alumnus Aryo Khakpour as one of the Dramaturges.
