Vickers and MacQuarrie's Open Studio
SCA alumni Charlene Vickers is offering two Open Studio events with Chad MacQuarrie at the Contemporary Art Gallery on Saturday, November 20 and Saturday, December 18, both from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM, presented in support of her exhibition Ancestor Gesture, which runs until January 2, 2022. As the CAG site tells us, "Open Studio is a monthly program for young visitors and families inspired by contemporary art practices and CAG’s current exhibitions." More HERE. Alzamora in Transferencias Aurales
SCA MA student Mar Alzamora is participating as both a speaker and moderator in Transferencias Aurales. I Encuentro Latinoamericano de música y tecnología (Aural Transfers – Latin American Conference of Music and Technology) on Friday, November 12, 2021, organized by the National Autonomous University of Mexico's School of Music and Postgraduate Music Program. Mar will be presenting "The Otherwise and Music Improvisation: How Do We Listen to The Bodies Of Water?," which is based on her MA research about her soundwalk "Aqui habita un rio (A River Lives Here)." SCA alumni Deanna Peters is directing street dancers Savage & Samuelle (Victor Tran & Samuelle Auclair) in a "25-min duet expanding and deconstructing ideas around freestyle leading and following," developed with support from BC Arts Council, the plastic orchid factory, and Left of Main. More HERE.
Alfeld’s Jean Swanson: We Need a New Map
SCA alumni Teresa Alfeld’s Jean Swanson: We Need a New Map is screening with Carmen Pollard’s Militant Mother at the The Rio Theatre's "Lessons from the Past, Calls to Action for the Future" on Sunday, November 7, 2021, from 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM. Co-presented by Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival’s Citizen Minutes initiative and Women Transforming Cities, the films will be followed by a panel featuring the filmmakers, Carmen Pollard and Teresa Alfeld, and activists Audrey Siegl, Beverly Ho, Kimberley Wong, Lee Maracle, and Mary Point, moderated by Women Transforming Cities founder (and former city council member) Ellen Woodworth. Hill and Evans in Screen Door
Pi Theatre is presenting Screen Door, the inaugural project by Applied Science, on December 3, 2021, at 8:00 PM (doors at 7:30 PM), at Saint James Community Square (3214 W 10th Ave, Vancouver), as part of this year's Pi Provocateurs series. Written and directed by José Teodoro and with musical direction and thematic composition by Stephen Lyons (Fond of Tigers), Screen Door will be performed by the SCA's Steven Hill and SCA alumni Tasha Faye Evans.
