Chaput at DOXA

We're excited to be a Community Partner for SCA alumnus Jocelyne Chaput's "Focus on Editing" DOXA Industry conversation with Greg Ng at the DOXA Documentary Film Film Festival on Monday, May 9, 2022, at 4:00 PM (PDT) at The Post at 750 – Startup Studio, co-presented by the Canadian Cinema Editors. Chaput is the editor for Sara Dosa's Fire of Love, Chaput first feature as editor, which is opening the Festival. Grab your FREE / by donation tickets HERE.

Other SCA folks in this year's DOXA include SCA alumnus Teresa Alfeld's newest documentary, Doug and the Slugs and Me, which is also one of DOXA's Special Presentations films this year; SCA alumnus Hannah Dubois' And Ingrid, about sorely under-recognized N.E. Thing Co co-founder Ingrid Baxter, is having it's World Premiere as part of the shorts program Profile Shots; SCA alumni Suzanne Friesen and Kellen Jackson both worked on Sara Wylie's A More Radiant Sphere, which is also having its World Premiere at the Festival; and, of course, the SCA's Nadia Shihab's film Echolocation will also be screening (in-person May 8 and 10), and she (and Teresa Alfeld) will be part of DGC Visionaries on Saturday, May 7, from 12:00 PM – 5:30 PM at The Kent (534 Cambie Street), and also part of the panel discussion Filmmaking and Motherhood on Sunday, May 8, at 1:00 PM, in the Djavad Mowafaghian World Art Centre here at SFU Goldcorp Centre for the Arts (149 W. Hastings St.).

Yoon at the KAG

If you're in, around, or interested in the trip, the SCA's Jin-me Yoon's exhibition Here Elsewhere Other Hauntings is running April 23 to July 2, 2022, at the Kamloops Art Gallery, curated by Anne-Marie St-Jean Aubre, the Curator of Contemporary Art for the Musée d'art de Joliette. More HERE.

Kong on Taylor

SCA PhD student Yani Kong contributed an essay about Andrea Taylor sculptural work to the zine that accompanies the Kate Henderson curated group exhibition, We can only hint at this with words, which also includes work by M.E. Sparks and Russna Kaura. The exhibition opens this Saturday, April 23, 2022, from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM at the Gordon Smith Gallery of Canadian Art, and runs until June 25. Preview the zine HERE.

SCA in Same Difference

Theatre Conspiracy’s Same Difference, which runs April 19 – 23, 2022, at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts (6450 Deer Lake Avenue, Burnaby), is full of great SCA folks: SCA alumnus David Mesiha (Concept, Projection Design, Sound Design and Project Lead), Milton Lim (Projection Co-Design and Co-Development), and Aryo Khakpour (Dramaturgy, Performance and Co-Development). Julie Andreyev and SCA PhD student Simon Overstall's EPIC_Tom ++, which "features three works of live musical improvisation and generative media from Julie Andreyev and Simon Overstall’s multispecies projects with dogs, crows, and forest communities," performed by an ace group of players, including Andreyev, Overstall, the SCA's Stefan Smulovitz, Adrian Avendaño, Marina Hasselberg, Giorgio Magnanensi, and Anju Singh.
