Aidan West wins Alfred P. Sloan Foundation award

SCA film alumni Aidan West, who is also a current MFA candidate in the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television, has won an Alfred P. Sloan Foundation award, which recognizes "scripts that demonstrate examples of real or plausible science."

The award is a $15,000 (USD) grant to help towards the development of his feature film script, She Sells Sea Shells. The script is "a period drama based on the true story of Mary Anning, a young 19th century English girl from a working-class family who had a knack for finding dinosaur fossils near the eroding limestone and shale cliffs of Lyme Regis, a small coastal town and popular seaside resort in the county of Dorset."

Read a profile of West and his fellow award recipients Todd Goodlett and Mrittika Sarin on the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television's site (the source of our quotes above).

Along with Gloria Mercer, his partner in the production company See Horse Films (which produced Mercer's film Hekademia, with support by the National Film Board and the Canada Council for the Arts), West was also a much-appreciated and inspiring Keynote speaker for our Fall 2019 Orientation event.

Congratulations, Aidan!
