Twenty-seven SCA Repertory Dancers perform diverse and deeply physical work by acclaimed Contemporary Dance Artists.
BIOS
Choreographer Joshua Beamish founded Joshua Beamish/MOVETHECOMPANY in 2005. His works have since extensively toured throughout North America, Europe, Asia and Africa. He has created works for The Royal Ballet, The National Ballet of Canada, Dutch National Ballet Junior Company/Choreographic Academy, Vancouver Opera, Cape Town Opera, Jacob's Pillow, New York City Ballet Principal dancers Wendy Whelan for Restless Creature and Ashley Bouder for The Ashley Bouder Project, Compania Nacional de Danza de Mexico, Toronto Dance Theatre, Cirque du Soleil for World EXPO Shanghai and he is alumni of the NY Choreographic Institute, a division of the New York City Ballet. Joshua's company has been presented by BAM Next Wave Festival, The Joyce Theater, Canada's National Arts Centre, London's The Place, The Bangkok & Seoul International Festivals, among others. He was an inaugural artist-in-residence at The Joyce Theater's Choreographic Centre at Gibney Dance and a founding member of The Joyce Theater's Young Leader’s Circle Committee. Noam Gagnon is an acclaimed choreographer and dancer who over the course of his career has helped lead Canadian contemporary dance to the forefront of the international stage. For 16 years Noam was Co-Artistic Director and Choreographer of The Holy Body Tattoo. Now Artistic Director of Vision Impure, Noam continues to reshape the dance landscape with his achingly intimate and powerful works including his most recent full-length works This Crazy Show and Pathways . Noam is regularly commissioned by artists and companies to create new works. Noam is an Associate Dance Artist of Canada’s National Arts Centre and Director of Beyond Pilates. visionimpure.org
Anya Saugstad is a dancer and choreographer from Vancouver Canada. Anya trained at ArtsUmbrella and then at Simon Fraser University where she received a BFA in dance. Currently, she is a part of the Performance Research Program mentored by Lesley Telford, and is also working on her own choreographic projects. Recently her work has been shown at SFU performances, BoomBox, and PreShow, as well as in film work with various music artists from Vancouver.
Chick Snipper is a Vancouver Choreographer, Director, Mentor, Dramaturge/Outside Eye, Writer. She has created, taught and collaborated in dance, theatre, film and interdisciplinary work for over 35 years. Chick was Artistic Director of DSB for 20 years, retiring in 2007 to pursue her career as an independent artist.
