Please join us for an evening of live ambient music featuring Loscil (SCA music alumni Scott Morgan) and Secret Pyramid (Amir Abbey), presented in advance support of the release of Loscil's 12th album, Equivalents, in August via the Chicago-based independent label Kranky Records.
Vancouver-based composer and multimedia artist Scott Morgan has been producing music under the Loscil moniker for 20 years. His latest full length – Equivalents – takes its title from an influential series of early 20th century photographs by Alfred Stieglitz. Abstracting clouds into miasmic, painterly canvases of smoke and shadowplay, Equivalents is a deeply fitting analog for Morgan’s own process, fraying forms and tones into widescreen mirages of opaque texture and negative space. Equivalents will be presented live with integrated visuals and a guest appearance from Vancouver's Secret Pyramid who is also featured on the album.
Secret Pyramid, aka Amir Abbey, records dark, eerie minimalist drone utilizing tape loops, field recordings, synths, as well as the elusive Ondes Martenot. Reminiscent of space rock groups like Windy & Carl as well as Popol Vuh's soundtrack work, Abbey's recordings seem immensely lonely, yet comforting, achieving a singular balance between the alien and the familiar.
Presented by the School for the Contemporary Arts.
