Double congratulations for Jackson

Double congratulations to SCA alumni Lisa Jackson. She won both the BMO-DOC Vanguard Award, which is "given to an emerging or mid-career professional filmmaker, who demonstrates a keen artistic sensibility and forward-thinking approach to the craft, with the potential to lead the next generation of doc-makers," and the Canadian Forum Pitch Prize for her "hybrid documentary feature project," Wilfred Buck, at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival. Congratulations twice, Lisa!  

Rapisarda Casanova gets funded

Congratulations to the SCA's Simone Rapisarda Casanova, who received funding from the Canada Council for the Arts to work on PERSEO (PERSEUS), which is currently in pre-production. Find out more HERE.

Yoon talks Dreaming Birds Know No Borders

Marks' busy schedule continues!

The SCA's Laura Marks will be co-hosting a webinar – Let’s get together with a small carbon footprint – on May 27, 2021, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM (Pacific) with Stephen Makonin (SFU Engineering Science) for the Pacific Aids Network. Marks will also be providing a response to presentations by architecture historian Courtney Lesoon and media archeologist Radek Przedpełski about Erdem Taşdelen's exhibition A Minaret for the General’s Wife at Toronto's Mercer Union, with moderation by Sarah Rifky. Urban Subjects reviewed

The Urban Subjects' (the SCA's Sabine Bitter and Jeff Derksen and Helmut Weber) curated exhibition, If Time Is Still Alive, part of the Camera Austria series The City & The Good Life, was reviewed in Ljubljana's Delo. Read it HERE (in Slovenian).

As Simon Fraser University is eyeing a return to campus for the fall term, the SCA has already developed and practiced deep safety protocols for in-class instruction. In fact, we've really lead the way!
