15 Labs, over 60 table volunteers (including Lab members, BNSS, PSU and FASS members), and 7 undergraduate psychology student volunteers were present at Lab Fair 2024. An average of 68 students visited each table.

Thank you to all attendees and volunteers! We hope to see you again at the next Research Lab Fair!

Participating Labs

Adolescent Health Lab

The Adolescent Health Lab  integrates research on both normative and atypical developmental trajectories with the goal of understanding how they can support healthy development and intervene during critical transitions to reduce risk. Over the past decade they have focused on understanding risk and protective factors among adolescent girls and boys at high risk for violence and victimization.

They will present students' projects in the lab on adolescent health, as well as information on an intervention program called Connect - an attachment-based parenting program for parents across Canada.

AUTISM & DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITES LAB (ADDL)

The Autism & Developmental Disabilities Lab researches Autism Spectrum Disorders, Down Syndrome, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders, and other Developmental Disabilities. They will be presenting current studies and recruiting for our camps.

ALL FAMILIES LAB

The All Families Lab researches on  how parents and families can better support child flourishing. Our current projects address how mindfulness and cultural factors contribute to effective parenting and positive child development.

CLOSE RELATIONSHIPS LAB

The Close Relationships Lab studies how romantic relationships change over time and how people can have satisfying and healthy romantic relationships. This lab currently focuses on the experiences of people in ethically non-monogamous relationships (e.g., polyamory, open, or swinging) to learn how they may succeed despite the challenges of stigma from dominant hetero- mono-normative society.

CORTECH (Concussion Outcomes, Recovery, and TECH interventions) Lab

The CORTECH Lab studies the psychosocial determinants of health after concussion across the lifespan (adolescents and adults). We will be presenting ongoing research and hosting a concussion trivia game. We will also be actively recruiting new volunteer research assistants.

EYEWITNESS MEMORY LAB

Students will be able to participate in a fun memory game where they try to both remember faces and match different pictures of the same person. Through this game, students will get a taste of the kind of research conducted by the Eyewitness Memory Lab.

GROW TO CARE LAB

Grow to Care Lab studies children's emotions, social behaviors, and peer relationships, and how parents and peers can influence child well-being. They will be presenting their ongoing and future research initiatives, and talk about research opportunities for those who wish to get involved in research.

HELPING & HAPPINESS LAB

Dr. Aknin's Social Psychology Lab investigates what types of behaviour and people promote connection, kindness, and well-being. Their station will be collecting data for an ongoing research study!

INTERGROUP RELATIONS AND SOCIAL JUSTICE LAB

The Intergroup Relations and Social Justice lab will be presenting research on one of their reoccurring projects, the Making Ends Meet poverty simulation. The Intergroup Relations and Social Justice Lab will also be recruiting research assistants for future poverty simulations.

Measurement and Modelling Lab

How do individual, psychological, social, and contextual factors affect how people respond to questionnaires, surveys, or tests? Come visit the Measurement and Modelling Lab table to learn about the work they are doing in various areas, including relationship function, concussion-related symptoms, and dementia assessment.

LINGUISTICS RESEARCH LABS

Come visit the Linguistics Research Labs table to learn about the work the Language Learning and Development Lab, Language & Brain Lab, and Phonological Processing Lab are doing in language and speech.

SINGLEHOOD EXPERIENCES AND COMPLEXITIES UNDERLYING RELATIONSHIPS (SECURE) LAB

People involved in supportive intimate relationships experience better psychological and physical health. However, even good relationships are hard to maintain. Given the crucial role of intimate relationships in protecting people against psychological and physical health problems, our research aims to determine when and for whom relationships foster greater well-being. The SECURE Lab will present the latest research in the domains of relationship and singlehood studies with posters.

Spalek Lab of Attention, Memory & Perception

The Spalek lab conducts high quality research using the latest technology to better understand how we process our complex world.

SUSTAINABILITY, IDENTITY & SOCIAL CHANGE LAB (SISC)

The Sustainability, Identity, & Social Change Lab will be presenting research on environmental activism, climate change and imagining a sustainable world.

TRANSLATIONAL NEUROSCIENCE LAB

The Translational Neuroscience lab uses touchscreen-based cognitive testing in mice and humans to try and understand how sleep and circadian rhythm disturbances contribute to the cognitive decline associated with Alzheimer's disease. There will be scientific posters, a power point presentation with the images of our studies, CANTAB test introduction on iPad, and games that imitates the experiments we do in animals (Touchscreen Cognition Chambers).
