MECH 140 Basics of Machine Tools (BMT)

"Safety, Hands-on Experience, and Fun"

The Basic of Machine Tools (BMT) hands-on training prioritizes practical machine shop skills, focusing on basic operations of conventional lathes, mills, and standard machine shop equipment, along with essential measuring devices and techniques. By the end of the training, participants will have grasped fundamental machining theory and acquired the ability to perform basic machining tasks and other essential machine shop practices. These skills are crucial for mechanical design, prototyping, and future fabrication projects.

Completion of this course serves as a prerequisite for advanced training, such as the "Basics of CNC Machining," where participants can master professional-level machining and fabrication skills. A prerequisite for enrollment in this program is successful completion of the SFU safety course (or its equivalent).
