Get to know your Applied Sciences community by connecting with a FAS club, student society, or design team! These student groups offer an opportunity to not only make friends within your program, but a chance to develop skills beyond the classroom or get access to learning and career resources.

Undergraduate Student Societies

Student societies are elected, student-run bodies that represent undergraduate students. They bridge the gap between you, your department and Faculty, and the Simon Fraser Student Society. You automatically belong to the student society which correlated with your major and/or minor department.

Computing Science Student Society (CSSS)

The Simon Fraser University Computing Science Student Society (CSSS) is a student-run society dedicated to promoting the interests of all students in the School of Computing Science.

The Engineering Science Student Society (ESSS)'s mission is to foster engineering students' academic, career, and professional developemnt. We provide services and resources to help students succeed in their educational endeavours.

MECHATRONIC SYSTEMS ENGINEERING STUDENT SOCIETY (MSESS)

The Mechatronic Systems Engineering Student Society (MSESS) is established to serve and represent the interests of its members to the School of Mechatronic Systems Engineering (MSE), throughout Simon Fraser University, and beyond to industry and other engineering societies. The MSESS, run entirely by students, promotes school spirit and fosters community building by providing opportunities for you to interact with fellow students, faculty, staff and industry.

SUSTAINABLE ENERGY ENGINEERING STUDENT SOCIETY (SEESS)

The Sustainable Energy Engineering Student Society (SEESS) is a departmental student union within the SFSS that aims to represent the wants and needs of SFU SEE students. As a SEE student, you are automatically a member of the SEESS and can seek out SEESS specific opportunities and resources, you are also be able to participate in meetings as voting members or take on leadership roles within the student body.

SOFTWARE SYSTEMS STUDENT SOCIETY (SSSS)

Whether you are a Software Systems (SoSy) student or a student enrolled in a Surrey CMPT class, you are represented by the Software Systems Student Society (SSSS). Our core missions are to promote interests of the SoSy student community, provide resources and information for students about the program, and to be an advocate for student issues.

Undergraduate Clubs & Design Teams

Applied Sciences clubs and design teams are special interest groups which enrich the student experience. Joining a club helps students connect with peers, make friends, develop new skills and provide opportunities to attend events, conferences, or competitions.

WOMEN IN COMPUTING SCIENCE (WICS)

Women in Computing Science (WiCS) is an SFU student group that aims to support women including those who identify as female, non-binary, agender, and intersex throughout their study of Computing Science. 

Join the WiCS maillist and social media, attend one of our events: game nights, movie nights, interview prep workshops, general meetings. If you have any questions, feel free to join us on Discord or email us at wics@sfu.ca.

WOMEN IN ENGINEERING (WIE)

The Women in Engineering (WiE) is a student club that aims to empower women in engineering through outreach programs, mentorship programs, as well as networking sessions and company tours to aid in the career development for those entering the corporate world.   Our club also includes the Women in Engineering Design Team (WiE Design), which is a small technical club that is a subset of WiE.

WOMEN IN CLEAN TECH (WICT)

Women in Clean Tech (WiCT) is an SFU-Surrey based club focused on connecting all students in STEM while exploring clean technology initiatives. We welcome students of all genders to take part in our club activities and support our initiatives.

ROBOT SOCCER

SFU’s first Robot Soccer Club aims to combine the excitement of soccer with the future of automated technology as we compete in RoboCup Soccer competitions. Our team encourages students from all programs to come together and learn concepts that are not taught in class and get hands-on experience with robotics, artificial intelligence, and teamwork. The best way to get involved with us is our Discord server, where we'll be holding various events to welcome new students as well as our weekly meetings.

SATELLITE DESIGN TEAM

SFU Satellite Design Team (SAT) is a design team focused on designing and building satellites. We participate in competitions, government funded projects, and also run our own independent projects, often partnering with other designs teams or organizations. You can learn more about our current and past projects on our website. Though many of our members are FAS students, we consider ourselves a multidisciplinary team and invite members with any kind of background to join.

SFU SURGE

SFU Surge is a student organization dedicated to fostering excitement for the future of technology while guiding students towards career success. Our community empowers students to connect with professionals and offers unique networking opportunities. Through resources, support, and hands-on projects, we ensure each student gains valuable experience and presents their projects professionally to potential employers.  Our annual capstone event, StormHacks, is a highlight, offering students a chance to showcase their skills, network, and have fun.

ROCKETRY

SFU Rocketry is a joint initiative among the three largest rocketry and aerospace teams at Simon Fraser University. We are an administrative team working to represent each design team in their efforts for funding and resources. Together, we represent over 100 students and their ambitious goals from designing and building satellites and rockets to autonomous drones. Our core values are grounded in the belief that a STEM education should be accessible to all regardless of their backgrounds and experiences. Most of all, we create a multidisciplinary space.

Engineers without boarders

Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Canada is a pioneering NGO dedicated to leveraging engineering for positive global impact, combating systemic poverty through sustainable solutions. Through partnerships, advocacy, and grassroots initiatives, EWB addresses challenges ranging from clean water access to social entrepreneurship promotion. At SFU, our student chapter fosters teamwork and interpersonal skills while tackling local and global issues through ventures, projects, workshops, and programs.

Developers & Systems Club

The Developers and Systems (DNS) Club aims to provide a supportive space for programmers from all backgrounds to learn, grow, and code together. We've hosted events like coding competitions featuring custom DNS libraries in collaboration with CSSS, hackathons focused on building transaction networks, and hands-on workshops. Our club explores a wide range of programming fields, including web development, backend development, and game development, among many others.

Mechanical Keyboarding Club

The SFU Mechanical Keyboard Club is a club for keyboard enthusiasts, hobbyists, and anyone who is interested in mechanical keyboards! Our community encourages everyone to connect with fellow keyboard hobbyists and introduce others to the joy of mechanical keyboards through our events, which includes workshops, competitions, and meetups.

Graduate Student Associations & Clubs

SUSTAINABLE ENERGY GRADUATE STUDENT SOCIETY (SEE GSA)

The SEE Graduate Student Association (SEE GSA) is the student society for all SEE graduate students. We are here to represent the interests of and advocate for SEE grad students, as well as to provide opportunities for connection and community. The SEE GSA represents its members in the GSSTSSU, and SEE Graduate Program Committee (GPC). COMPUTING SCIENCE GRADUATE STUDENT ASSOCIATION (CS GSA)

CSGSA is a student-made organization that advocates for and supports the wellbeing of computing science graduate students at SFU. We invite CS grads to come to our General Meetings (GM) where we give out news, plan new events, and fund student ideas! Look out for our email notifications :)

ENGINEERING SCIENCE GRADUATE STUDENT ASSOCIATION (EGSA)

The EGSA is formed to support and advance the academic, professional and social experience of students in the School of Engineering Science graduate program and School of Mechatronic Systems Engineering.  It should be noted that all graduate students in these schools are members of the EGSA, and EGSA represents and promotes the interests of them.

EGSA elects their executive committee from among graduate students annually at the beginning of each school year in September. EGSA shall hold regular meetings during each semester and all members are welcome to attend.
