Distribution of Cetaceans :

A total of 313 oppotunistic cetacean sightings of 13 different species were recorded over the four field seasons of effort of the leeward coast of Domincia. The sperm whale was the most often encountered species as research conducted was directed towards this species and it was actively tracked using acoustic methods. The species, in order of most often sighted, include: pantropical spotted dolphin, Fraser's dolphin, bottlenose dolphin, false killer whale, humpback whale, short-finned pilot whale, melon-headed whale, Cuvier's beaked whale, striped dolphin, rough-toothed dolphin, Atlantic spotted dolphin, and Gervais' beaked whale. Figure 2, below, identifies all cetacean sightings across all four field seasons.
