Distribution of Cuvier's Beaked Whales:
A total of two confirmed oppotunistic sightings of Cuvier's beaked whales were recorded over the four field seasons of effort off the leeward coast of Domincia. Beaked whales are notoriously difficult to identify. In general, its difficult to tell females apart for all 14 species; however, the Cuvier's is the most distinct species regardless of the sex of the individual sighted. Figure 10, below, identifies the location and distribution of all beaked whale sightings across all four field seasons. Note that this are two sightings of a beaked whales for which we were unable to attribute a speceis identification. Interestingly, all five of the beaked whale sightings are at the south end of the island.
