Biography

Over 30 years of academic, industrial, and entrepreneurial experience in the field of power electronics, power semiconductor devices, renewable energy systems, fault protection of DC and AC microgrids, and transportation electrification.

Over 300 journal and conference papers (received two IEEE Transaction Prize Paper awards), several book chapters, and 18 granted U.S. patents.

Fellow of the U.S. National Academy of Inventors and Fellow of IEEE in 2010. Recipient of the 2012 IEEE Region 3 Outstanding Engineer Award, the 2012 E. T. Walton Fellowship from Science Foundation of Ireland, the 2003 NSF CAREER Award, the 1996 Motorola Science and Technology Award, and the 2020 Illinois Institute of Technology Senior Faculty Sigma Xi Research Award.

Served the IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS) in various capacities including Vice President of Products, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Power Electronics Magazine, Chair of PELS Distinguished Lecturers Program, Guest Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transaction on Power Electronics, Guest Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics, general chair, technical program chair, or organizing committee member of over 30 international conferences.
