SEE professor attends COP29
Last month, SEE assistant professor practitioner, Taco Niet had the opportunity to attend the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan.
At the conference, he had the chance to observe how the negotiations worked between the different nations and civil society organizations.
COP is the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change – the main body that coordinates climate negotiations. This year the conference focused on climate finance with the goal of achieving a climate finance deal.
Upon his return, Niet provided his SEE 110 class with an insight on how climate negotiations are enacted. The students were then tasked to analyze how the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and COP process work, and what specific items are being negotiated. Next, they were asked to reflect on how those policies will impact them in their future careers and lives.
