Computing Science Post-Baccelaureate Diploma

OVERVIEW

The Post-Baccalaureate Diploma offers those who hold a bachelor’s degree the opportunity to develop and follow a program of individualized study, not usually provided by graduate or professional degrees. The program responds to changing educational needs, where mid-career advancement or changing career goals demand new knowledge and skills.

The PBD may be completed on a full or part-time basis. Students in a Post-Baccalaureate Diploma Program complete a total of 30 or more units of work (approximately one year of full-time study).

It is intended for students who:

  • Want to integrate a significant amount of computing science into their career path.
  • Are trying to obtainthe undergraduate training needed before applying to a graduate program in computing science.
  • Wish to upgrade foreign credentials take to make themselves more competitive in the Canadian job market

Program at-a-glance

Students in this program complete 30 credits of upper division (300/400 level) courses, 24 credits must be from computing science.

Upon succesful completion of introductory courses, students will have the option to explore advanced topics in one of our core concentration areas, including:

  • Artificial intelligence
  • Visual and interactive computing
  • Computing systems
  • Information systems
  • Programming languages and software
  • Theoretical computing

What You'll Learn

The program includes studies in computing science at a more advanced level.  Depending on your previous academic and professional background, the co-operative education work program may also be available to better define your area of interest in computing science and gain practical experience and contacts.

A few core topics covered in this program include:

Information Systems

Learn software engineering and database systems design to enable you to undertake the efficient and effective development of large software products. Learn about the design and management of computer information systems.

Computing Systems

Computing systems is the foundation of every computing environment, including operating systems, data communication and distributed networks.  Students will have an understanding of challenges and methodologies in web engineering.

Data Strutures

Explore fundamental algorithms and data structures that can help in developing elegant and efficient solutions to complex problems. Study their specification, analysis, implementation (in C++), evaluation, and applications.
