Education Welcome Day: A Bright Start to the New Academic Year

September 19, 2024

What an amazing start to the year! On September 17, we kicked off the academic year with our Education Welcome Day, bringing together new and returning students, faculty, and staff. The day was filled with laughter, conversations, and new connections.

Students had the chance to meet Dean Daniel Laitsch, connect with undergraduate advisor Kim Risso, meet Education Librarian Adena Brons, and learn about the different student associations and resources that make up our Faculty of Education, including Friends of Simon, the Research Hub, and the Education Student Association (ESA). With icebreaker activities, a fun giveaway (congratulations to our random draw winner Meghan Pooley!), and light snacks, the event set the tone for an exciting year ahead.

Join the Community Mural for World Teachers’ Day

We’re creating something special—a community mural celebrating the impact and expression of what it means to be an educator in honour of World Teachers' Day. Students, faculty, and staff are coming together to craft a collective work of art using mini canvases that will be unveiled in the Education Hallway on Friday, October 4, and you can still get involved!

Drop by the Marketing and Communications Office (EDB 8541) to pick up your canvas, get creative, and contribute to this meaningful project. Return your completed canvas to the red collection box (in the Education Hallway, between the Learning Hub and Research Hub) by Monday, October 1.

Your Voice Matters – Complete the Feedback Survey

We want to hear from you! Fill out our Fall Feedback Survey by Monday, October 1, and you'll be entered for a chance to win a $25 gift card. Your input helps us improve future events and communications to make your experience even better.

Check out the photo gallery from Welcome Day and follow us on social media for more updates and opportunities throughout the year. Here's to a great start!
