Policy Regarding Program Interruption
On occasion, students may need to interrupt their progression through Preservice Professional Studies due to circumstances not related to challenges with performance. A student requesting permission to interrupt (withdraw) must meet with the Coordinator of their Module to complete a Program Interrupt Form. Conditions for students' re-entry into the program are specified at this time. A recommendation is then made to the Director of Professional Programs, or in the case of an External site, the Coordinator. Students must apply for re-entry into the program by the deadline dates noted on the Program Interrupt Form. There are three categories of Interruption from Preservice Professional Studies for personal circumstances.
PERSONAL CIRCUMSTANCES
Student teachers may interrupt their studies for financial, medical or other special circumstances. Application for interruption from Preservice Professional Studies can occur at any point during a student teacher’s progression through EDUC 401/402/404/405 and requires documentation as deemed necessary by Preservice Professional Studies.
Student teachers who withdraw from the program before completing EDUC 400 must re-apply for admission to the program. While their applications are subject to the same criteria for admission as all other candidates, the Admissions Committee may also consider any available information about a student teacher’s performance during the time the student teacher was enrolled in the program. A previous admission does not imply any right to re-admission. EDUC 400 students are required to drop the course online at http://go.sfu.ca (for weeks 1 to 5). Students wishing to apply for "WE" (Withdrawal Extenuating) consideration should complete and submit to Student Services the Withdrawal Under Extenuating Circumstances Application.
RE-ENTRY
Students who withdraw from Preservice Professional Studies must apply to re-enter. Please refer to Re-Entry & Re-Admission to Preservice Professional Studies for more information.
Students are required to drop courses online at go.sfu.ca (for weeks 1 to 5). Students wishing to apply for "WE" (Withdrawal Extenuating) consideration should complete and submit to Student Services the Withdrawal Under Extenuating Circumstances Application. A copy of the Preservice Professional Studies Interruption Form (after it has been approved) should also be attached when applying for "WE" consideration by Student Services.
