Winter Break Reads: Inspiring Children's Literature Books From EDUC 465 Students
In EDUC 465: Advanced Studies in Children’s Literature with Dr. Elizabeth Marshall, students explore children’s literature through diverse theoretical perspectives, examining early readers, middle-grade novels, picturebooks, and film. This hands-on course includes attending an author/illustrator talk and conducting weekly research at local libraries.
As part of their final project, students collaborated with Adena Brons, Education Librarian, to create a special display at Belzberg Library, SFU Vancouver. The display highlights their recommended children’s books, featuring texts that inspired their projects.
Looking for winter break reads? Explore their selections below and visit the display in person to discover the art and impact of children’s literature!
It was a pleasure working with Dr. Marshall and her Education 465 students. She brings fantastic ideas for learning beyond the classroom and values collaboration with SFU Library. It was rewarding to see students proudly showcasing their work and engaging with the display. My goal is to foster a sense of belonging in library spaces and encourage interaction with collections. Visitors will enjoy exploring the diverse children’s literature and the students' thoughtful reflections—perhaps even finding a new family favourite! I hope this project inspires future collaborations across all SFU campuses.
– Adena Brons, Education Librarian
