Previous Peer Mentor

Susan Luu

Graduated: 2021

My experience with my peer mentor, Jamie, is why I wanted to become a peer mentor. She welcomed me into the university and introduced me to all the different clubs and roles within the Faculty of Education. It was with all her help and support that made my first year at SFU the best it could’ve ever been. I want to give someone the same experience I received and make their first year amazing!

What is your best first year memory?

My best first year memory was definitely the SFU Fall Kickoff! It was the first social event that I went to. I remember how much fun it was and a great way to meet new people. It’s a real shame that there won’t be one this year.

Words of advice to new students?

My only advice would be to be open and try new things. You won’t get anywhere by just doing the things you are used to. I definitely wanted to be more involved within the SFU community. It was honestly the best decision I’ve ever made and I strongly encourage you guys to do the same!!

What are you involved in on and off campus?

On campus, I am a student senator, as an representative of the Faculty of Education. I use my seat as a way to speak on behalf of the students and shed new thoughts on current issues. Also, I am a active member in the Education Student Association. Outside of school, I have a part time job at Miniso, a Japanese retail store which I’ve been working at for one year now.
