I chose to become a peer mentor to be a friendly face for new students who need one. I really look forward to meeting all my mentees so that we can work together to make sure that their first semester at SFU is as good as can be!

What is your best first year memory?

My best first-year memory is probably attending my very first lecture. I remember being in complete awe of my professor and the course content! It’s where I fell in love with university and learned that this is truly the place for me.

Words of advice to new students?

The biggest piece of advice I would give to new students is to talk to your professors. Ask them questions after lecture! Go to office hours! My favourite part of every semester is getting to know all of my professors. I find that I learn so much quicker and enjoy the class a lot more. Another piece of advice is to talk to people in your lectures! People are so interesting, and—you never know— the person you’re sitting next to could be your best friend tomorrow!

What are you involved in on and off campus?

On campus I’m involved with the SFSS as a councillor for the Education Student Association (ESA). I’ve been a part of ESA since my second semester and I’ve learned a lot and made lots of new friends! Off campus, I practice yoga and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. I also love to read books, write stories, play instruments, play video games, and do arts and crafts.
