I wanted to help and support students entering university feel welcomed. My own mentors helped make my transition into SFU much more enjoyable and memorable; I want future incoming students also experience the joys of being at SFU.

What is your best first year memory?

Walking around campus during Week of Welcome and meeting new people was definitely the best memory from first year. Faculties, staff, and students were friendly and welcoming, and the overall energy at the Burnaby campus was so lively! The new people I had just met and ate pancakes with during the first week of my university life are now my best friends.

Words of advice to new students?

Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and get involved. Getting involved doesn't always mean you have to volunteer. Clubs Days is a great way to find and join clubs you are interested in; alternatively, you attend events put on by your faculty. Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today! Go to that event, meet the staff and students, or plan a date to meet someone. Making connections and interacting with one another is one of the most important and rewarding experiences you can have in university.

What are you involved in on and off campus?

On campus, I am a Welcome Day Leader, a Summit Peer Leader, a member of the Education Student Association. Off campus, I volunteer at a school every summer by teaching English to Japanese students. During the fall and spring, I usually volunteer at a local elementary school to work with grade 1 and 2 students.
