Previous Peer Mentor

I have goals on becoming a teacher in the future, and so I saw peer mentorship as a wonderful opportunity to gain some experience in a leadership role. I also wanted to be a part of the warm welcome to SFU that incoming students would experience.

What is your best first year memory?

My actual first year of SFU was spent online, and so the year I would like to consider as my first year would be the first year of in-person classes. My favorite memory would be the first time that I arrived at the Burnaby Mountain campus. Hopping off the 145 and walking up the (many) stairs made me realize that I was actually a university student at that moment. It was a feeling that is very difficult to recreate and describe, but it is one that I will never forget.

Words of advice to new students?

It can be pretty intimidating attending your first lecture, so I would suggest making friends with the people sitting nearby! Having a group of people you are familiar with at school will help you feel a lot more comfortable in the new environment and make the transition to university life a little easier.

What are you involved in on and off campus?

On campus I am a Peer Mentor, and can usually be found with something from Blenz Coffee in the Student Union Building. Off-campus I enjoy taking my dog Lily on walks around a nearby park or playing video games.
