Process
As per the Criminal Records Review Act, students working with children or vulnerable adults must complete a Criminal Record Check (CRC). The cost of running a CRC is $28, and the fee is non-refundable. Full instructions are available here.
- Go to the criminal record check page on the B.C. government website.
- Enter the Simon Fraser University Access Code and click “Continue”. You can find the code here.
- Confirm Simon Fraser University is listed as the Organization Name on the page. Use the job title “Practicum Student” and select “Continue”.
- Read the Terms of Use, and accept the terms and conditions, then click "Continue".
- You will now be prompted to log in with your BC Services Card (preferred method) or continue without your BC Services Card login.
It is recommended but not required that you use your BC services card for authentication. This eliminates the need for SFU to verify your identification later and will speed up the application process - Please follow all the steps for identity verification and provide consent. Use your SFU email address if possible.
- Review your information (incorrect information may lead to another criminal record check application, which will cost an additional $28) and select “Next”.
- The system will ask you for a $28 credit card payment to process the criminal record check. Enter your credit card information and select “Pay Now”. Print the receipt for your records.
Important: Do not use the back button on your browser.
If there is no determination of risk: you will automatically be forwarded an electronic copy of your clearance letter. The Criminal Records Check is valid for five years unless there is a break in studies at SFU. For courses requiring a Criminal Record Check, it must be valid from the start date of the course to the end of the term in which the course is offered.
If there is a determination of risk: you will receive a letter through registered mail from the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General providing you with information about the adjudication process. You will also be contacted by Student Services with information regarding the options that are available to you.
