The HIVE (Home for Interactive and Virtual Engagement) Program is more than just a community—it's a space to make new friends, acquire knowledge, and have fun. We are committed to ensuring that you start your journey at SFU on the right foot, setting you up for success in both your first term and your entire first year.
HIVE is your first step towards an incredible educational journey. We understand that starting something new can be both exhilarating and challenging. That's why we're dedicated to making this transition enjoyable and engaging. We care about you and have designed this programming so you can have a smooth transition and a great experience at SFU.

Who can join the HIVE Program?
All new undergraduate students! The HIVE Program will place you in a small group with other new students from the same Faculty and program.
Why should you participate?
- It’s an awesome way to meet other new students and become part of the SFU community
- Engage with HIVE Leaders, current students who will share their insights, tips, and personal experiences.
- Enjoy a supportive and welcoming environment to get to know your peers before classes begin.
How do I join?
Your Get Started newsletter will provide you with updates about the launch of SFU 101 and the HIVE Program. In the month prior to classes you will receive details on how to accept your invitation into the course and meet your HIVE.
HOW CAN I GET THE MOST OUT OF THE HIVE PROGRAM?
It’s simple! Join SFU 101 as soon as you get your invite, and participate in the discussions within your HIVE. By being part of an ongoing conversation, you’ll engage with other new students and connect with HIVE Leaders.
You should also attend the events hosted for your HIVE group. Your HIVE Leaders will host various social events leading up to and in your first few weeks at SFU. These are great opportunities to meet your peers, make new friends, and learn about university and campus resources.
