When did you meet Thelma? | 1968 |
In what capacity did you know Thelma? | |
Where are you now? | |
Wishes: | I first met Thelma in 1968, one day after I arrived at the Pestology Centre as a graduate student from Australia. I was taken to her office by the founding Director of the Pestology Centre, Dr. Beirn, who simply said to me that this is a professor who will help to look after you. True to his words, Thelma did look after me, and was the first faculty member who invited my wife and me to her home for tea. As a new comer to a new campus, this meant a lot for us. Some time later, Rosalie had a chance to visit Belleville, painted a picture of her former house and presented it to her. Amazingly, when I visited Thelma in 2012, she actually showed me the painting by Rosalie, presented to her some 54 years ago! To this kind mentor with a steel memory, I would like to say: "Happy 100th to Thelma. You have been an inspiration to both Rosalie and me." Regards, Andrew |
