Our first social invitation was to Thelma's home for a most elegant dinner. We knew we had found a wonderful friend and an extraordinary and caring colleague and university citizen. As time went on I realized that in all my years in the university world I had never known an individual who gave so much solely for the love of her students and the academic endeavour. Jane and I wish you the happiest of birthdays dear Thelma.
