Awards and Scholarships

Fred and Elaine Moonen Scholarship:

One award, valued at $2,400, will be granted to a student majoring in Communication in their third or fourth year of studies. Preference will be given to students in the Communication Honours program. 

Radio Station CHMB AM1320 Award in Communication in Spring 2025:

One award valued at $3,900. The Radio Station CHMB AM1320 Award in Communication provides an annual Award from a portion of the income earned on the endowment. The Award will be given to a student enrolled in the Communications Honors program to assist with the cost of completing the Honors project. Preference will be given to a multi-lingual student whose Honors project addresses issues regarding the diversity of languages and cultures in the Greater Vancouver area with a focus on the role of the mass media, preferably radio.

Magnolia Spirit Award:

One award, valued at $2,000, will be granted annually to a student who has a declared major in Communication and who has demonstrated community service and/or volunteer involvement. You must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00, be in good academic standing and be enrolled in a minimum of 9 units of standard graded courses. Challenge, audit and non-credit courses are not considered.

Honours Awards

Rogers Communication Inc. Award in Communication:

One award, valued at $4,800, will be given to a student enrolled in the Communications Honours program to assist with the cost of completing the Honours project. Preference will be given to students whose project addresses recent issues in Communication (eg: relating to television or to the production of a video.) 

Radio Station CHMB AM 1320 Award in Communication:

Two awards, valued at $3,900 each, will be given to a student enrolled in the Communications Honours program to assist with the cost of completing the Honours project. Preference will be given to a multi-lingual student whose Honours project addresses issues regarding the diversity of languages and cultures in Metro Vancouver with a focus on the role of mass media, preferably radio.
