SFU Climbing Wall temporary closure

SFU has had to temporarily close the SFU Climbing Wall due to space limitations related to renovations to the Lorne Davies Complex. The closure is anticipated to last until the end of the summer 2025 term.

Last spring, SFU began significant renovations to the Lorne Davis Complex to provide a continued safe and healthy environment to enhance the student, athlete, and community experience. The renovations have resulted in the temporary loss of the gym and programming space.

SFU’s Athletics and Recreation department continues to prioritize services and resources as per the University policies GP 36 and AD 1.17 and is focused on prioritizing programming covered in the Athletics and Recreation student fee. More information on the renovations can be found here.

The SFU Climbing Wall is used by a small number of SFU students and is considered a non-core service and is not included in the Athletics and Recreation student fee. As recreation programs continue to be evaluated to ensure they meet our community's needs, the temporary closure will allow time to assess and develop a model for the program's long-term feasibility and sustainability.
