Our Logo Story

Up until 2007, SFU’s Coat of Arms served as the university’s logo. In 2007, a logo was created to capture the breadth of SFU’s programming and student experience, resulting in the SFU logo as we know it today.

The visual expression was intended to be practical—a simple, sturdy block that could serve as an anchor for a broad variety of applications. Letters were placed in the bottom-right corner to give the impression of motion and pushing the edge forward. These letters were custom created by renowned B.C.-based type designer Jim Rimmer, who came out of retirement for this project.
