Call for nominations: FASS awards for faculty and staff

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) is currently accepting nominations for the Cormack Teaching Awards, Dean's Medal Awards, and Employee Achievement Awards. Winners will be recognized at the FASS Fall Reception later this year. 

FASS would not be where it is now without the excellence and dedication of its faculty and staff. If there is an outstanding faculty or staff that you would like to acknowledge, please take a look at the award descriptions below and submit your nomination by the deadlines listed below. 

Cormack Teaching Awards

Established by former FASS Dean Lesley Cormack in 2010 to celebrate excellence and innovation in teaching within the faculty, the award recognizes the passion that faculty members bring to the classroom, their quality of pedagogy, and the value they bring to their students’ education and the FASS teaching community.

The FASS Dean presents up to six Cormack Teaching Awards annually, one for each rank in the teaching stream (lecturer, senior lecturer, and university lecturer) and one for each rank of the research stream (assistant, associate, and full professor).

Nominations may come from students, faculty, or chairs and directors. Submit your nomination fasssec@sfu.ca to by April 8. Final nomination portfolios and letter of support due on May 31.

Dean's Medal Awards

In recognition of academic excellence in research, teaching, and service, with an emphasis on significant contributions while in position in FASS, up to three Dean's Medals and one Lifetime Achievement Award will be awarded annually to tenured faculty.

Nominations may come from department chairs or directors. Deadline to submit the nomination package to fass@sfu.ca is May 31.

FASS Employee Achievement Awards

Split into staff and teaching categories, these awards recognize the dedication and hard work of FASS employees including staff, faculty and temporary instructors in our collective service to the arts, humanities and social sciences and to our communities.

All students registered in FASS classes, FASS faculty members, and staff are welcome to submit nominations for the following awards. Please submit your nomination package by June 3.

STAFF

In recognition of FASS staff who are dedicated to their work and often go well out of their way to deliver excellent service and creative ideas that improve the lives of those within the university community and beyond.

TEACHING

Complementing the Cormack Teaching Awards, these awards are given to temporary as Teaching Assistants/Tutor Markers (TA/TM), Sessional Instructors, and Term Teaching or Research Faculty.
