Action Canada Fellowship Program

  • Fellows undertake this 10-month program in conjunction with their work, graduate studies or other projects.
  • The program revolves around five intensive, five-to-eight-day working conferences in locations such as Haida Gwaii, Vancouver, Kugluktuk, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Quebec City, Nain and Charlottetown. Fellows meet with senior leaders from all sectors, including government, industry, the media and NGOs.

  • There are various types of volunteer opportunities available.

  • Youth Leadership Teams (YLTs) are groups of 2-5 Canadian Volunteers that will work together to strengthen and energize the 18 EQWIP HUBs in Bolivia, Peru, Ghana, Senegal, Tanzania or Indonesia (one team per HUB). YLTs will work closely with local youth at the HUB to help enhance their connections and entry-points to the project and articulate youth experiences, with the ultimate goal of making HUBs lively, energized, knowledge-driven and youth-friendly spaces.

Under the Reading Tree

  • Under the Reading Tree currently supports five community libraries in Uganda. Each of these projects was initiated by a local individual or group who saw the need for a library to support children and adults in their community. Each library is managed locally, UTRT assists by contributing librarian salaries and annual book grants.

United Nations Volunteers

Details: 

  • UNV works under a dual mandate – to mobilize volunteers for the United Nations System and to advocate for the importance of volunteerism in development worldwide.
  • There are three volunteer options available: volunteering abroad, volunteering in your own country, and online volunteering.
  • International UN Volunteers promote peace and development in communities around the globe, while upholding the ideals and aspirations of the United Nations. International UN Volunteer assignments generally run for six to 12 months, with the possibility of extending for one to two years. Short-term assignments are also requested by our partners from time to time.
  • National UN Volunteers receive a volunteer living allowance to sustain a basic, adequate and safe lifestyle. This allowance varies from one location to another depending on local living costs.

  • UN Youth Volunteers help the United Nations – one of the world’s most important intergovernmental organizations - to fulfill its mission. These young volunteers are assigned to host United Nations agencies to work on the frontlines of political, developmental and humanitarian field operations.
  • As a UN Youth Volunteer, you will help advance peace and sustainable development either in your own country or in another country around the globe. You will help people to lead healthier and safer lives and communities to be able to better address present and future challenges.
  • Most UN Youth Volunteer assignments are between six and 24 months. On occasion, national and international UN Youth Volunteer assignments are less than six months and then are referred to as ‘short-term’ assignments.
  • UN Youth Volunteers receive a basic living allowance that allows the volunteer to live healthily and safely in the assigned area.

  • World Neighbours Canada (WNC) work to lead people to be reliant on their own powers and resources. Its program areas currently include Nepal (Asia), Burkina Faso (Africa), and Honduras (Central America).
