Research Services
Simon Fraser University is committed to supporting its faculty in their research and creative endeavours. The list below includes some examples of individual research or travel grants available to faculty and staff. More opportunities can be found on the Reserch Services website.
VPR Travel Grants are provided for faculty in areas supported by SSHRC to attend conferences to present a paper (including the presentation of a poster in a poster session), to serve as a keynote speaker or in the case of faculty in the School for the Contemporary Arts, to present one’s own creative work to a peer group. Presently, it covers airfare up to $900 (North America) and $2,000 (International). Funds are allocated on a first come, first served basis.
SSHRC Small Grants
SSHRC Small Grants support scholarly research in the contemporary arts, humanities and social sciences for expenses up to a maximum of $7,000. A lead applicant, together with one or more eligible coinvestigators may apply in a single application for up to a maximum of $10,000.
University Publications Fund
The University Publication Fund (UPF) is established under the authority of the Vice-President, Research for the purpose of providing support to faculty and staff of Simon Fraser University for their academic publications. The UPF is split into three streams.

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) offers research funding for faculty, graduate students, and retirees check the list below for some examples of grants. More opportunites can be found on the FASS website.
Visiting Speakers Fund
The FASS Visiting Speakers Fund provides funding to invite speakers to SFU. It offers a $5,000 grant to support visiting speakers in FASS.
Rapid Response Fund
The Rapid Response Fund supports continuing faculty members in FASS to address current topics of general interest both promptly and publicly. It offers a $5000 grant to support public events addressing current topics.
Retirees Research Fund
The Retirees Research Fund provides support for retired FASS faculty members to conduct research. It provides a $5,000 grant to support the research of retired FASS faculty.
